CL0024+17 is a cluster of galaxies about five billion light years from us.  Predicted dark matter is shown as the ghostly blue regions. p 80

Dark matter is made of particles* that do not absorb, reflect, or send ut light, so they cannot be seen by observing electromagnetic radiation. Dark matter is material that cannot be seen directly. We know that dark matter exists because of the effect it has on objects that we can observe directly. source
