Chemical formulas

  1. Chemical formulas sometimes called formulae can be used to describe the relative ratio amounts of elements more present in a compound. More from 7 below.

  2. For example, the chemical formula for water is H2O: this means that each molecule of water is constituted by 2 atoms of hydrogen (H) and 1 atom of  oxygen (O).

  3.
  4. Why is water called a molecule?
  5. Compounds contain two or more different elements. Water is a molecule because it contains molecular bonds bound or fixed together. Water is also a compound because it is made from more than one kind of element (oxygen and hydrogen). source

  6. The chemical composition of water may be interpreted seen as a 2:1 ratio of hydrogen atoms to oxygen atoms.

  7. An element is a pure substance that is made from a single type of atom.

  8. Elements are the building blocks for all the rest of the matter in the world.

  9. Examples of elements include iron, oxygen, hydrogen, and gold
