Big Bang a to g

 Update 9 March 2025.

These come from garden centres and some are much bigger.  Choose a date to make one in a class soon.

End of update.

From the Big Bang to now

The time from a (the Big  Bang - BB)  to the right edge of the next image is 13.8 billion years.  For more on billion see the table at 1 here.

 a

The Big Bang - 13.8 billion years ago.  In the beginning, everything in existence is thought to have occupied a single infinitely dense point, or singularity. Only after this point began to expand in a “Big Bang” did the universe officially begin.

There was no bang.   Sound needs a medium in which to travel. Sound waves cannot form unless there are molecules to bump into each other to pass the wave form along. Sounds will therefore not travel in space where only a vacuum exists.

b

The early Universe is a 'soup' of heat and radiation which cooled and in which subatomic particles were formed and later combined to form atoms. Cooling means escape of radiation.

c

The Dark Ages: the first atoms form...

d

.. about 200 million years the Big Bang, the first stars form.

e

First large galaxies form around 1 billion years after the Big Bang.

f

..expansion of Universe starts to rapidly accelerate  ....

g

.. about nine billion years after the Big Bang, our solar system and sun forms.  Leftover material collects to form solar planets including Earth.

NOW 13.8 billion years after the Big Bang.
